It’s Here! New Blackberry Software is Available and Geared Toward Small Businesses

If your computer network has an Exchange Server and you’re using a Blackberry, you should take advantage of new software just released by Research in Motion, the maker of the Blackberry.
I wrote about their new Blackberry Enterprise Server Express software a couple weeks ago suggesting that all our clients take advantage of it. At the time, it was coming out “soon”. Now it’s out and ready to be deployed.
How it Can Help
If you’re currently plugging in your Blackberry to your computer to update your calendar, contacts and sync your email, then this software will help you.
If your Blackberry already syncs wirelessly, you should still upgrade to this new software because it will allow a bunch of new functionality, such as the following (taken from the RIM website):
- Remote File Access - Users can find local and remote files, and open, view, save, or email JPEG, Adobe® PDF, Microsoft® Word, Microsoft® Excel® and Microsoft® PowerPoint® files directly from their BlackBerry® smartphone.
- Ability to download, edit, save and attach documents - Users can edit and save changes to Microsoft® Word and Microsoft® PowerPoint® files, then send them as email attachments to colleagues and customers while on the go.
- Native file attachments - Users can download and save full-size email attachments in their native file formats
- Increased IT administration functionality and security
- Contact sync – Contact information on users’ BlackBerry smartphones automatically stays up-to-date with the information on their computers.
- Address lookup – Users can look up colleagues in the corporate address book from their smartphone.
- Synchronization of multiple contact folders and more – Users can synchronize multiple contact folders, personal distribution lists and public/shared folders to their smartphone.
Oh yeah… and it’s free!
For more information, read my post from a couple weeks ago here or give us a call.
We’re installing it now on our internal server and will be rolling it out to clients starting next week.
